Factors affecting the service life of floor coverings

1. Material and quality

• PVC content: Floor coverings made of high-purity PVC raw materials have good flexibility, strong anti-aging ability, and longer life. Inferior floor coverings may be mixed with recycled materials or fillers, and are prone to cracking and fading.

• Wear-resistant layer thickness: The wear-resistant layer is the key to protecting the surface of floor coverings. The thicker the thickness (such as above 0.3 mm), the stronger the resistance to scratches and abrasion. Low-end products have thin wear-resistant layers (≤0.1 mm) and short life.

• Printing layer technology: High-quality floor coverings use high-precision printing and UV coating, with clear patterns and fading resistance; inferior products are printed roughly and easily lose their gloss within 1-2 years.

• Bottom layer structure: The bottom layer of high-end floor coverings is thickened or a foaming layer is added to enhance cushioning and stability; the bottom layer of low-end products is thin and easy to deform.

• Impact degree: Material quality is the core factor that determines the life span. High-quality products can be used 3-5 years longer than inferior products.

2. Use environment

• Traffic volume: Places with high traffic volume (such as shopping malls and offices) will accelerate the wear of floor coverings, and the life span may be shortened to 1-3 years; low traffic home environments (such as bedrooms) can extend it to more than 5 years.

• Humidity and temperature: Although floor coverings are waterproof, long-term exposure to humidity (such as unventilated bathrooms) may cause the glue layer to age or mold; high temperatures (such as balconies exposed to direct sunlight) will accelerate the aging of PVC, causing fading or deformation.

• Floor flatness: If the floor is not flat before installation (such as bulges or cracks), the floor coverings are prone to uneven force, resulting in cracking or warping, shortening the life span.

• Impact degree: Harsh environments (such as high humidity and high temperature) can shorten the life span by 30%-50%.
